Where did you get your cultural scripts about marriage? How did race and gender and class shape those messages for you?
I’m still not sold on the whole enterprise. I did it once after being asked a few times because it seemed like the path of least resistance. And I have manners. When someone asks you to marry them, it is impolite to say no.
